The wait is over: J.M. Hirsch’s new book, “Freezer Door Cocktails,” has finally arrived! Join J.M., Milk Street’s Editorial Director and creator of the viral freezer door cocktails series for a class where you’ll learn to batch, bottle, freeze and serve your favorite cocktails in a whole new way. If you think it’s as simple as sticking your favorite cocktail in the freezer, think again: J.M. spent months testing recipes to make sure that the batched beverages you put in the freezer don’t come out slushy or as one giant frozen block. We’ll put the science to the test as we make a cocktail to suit every taste. The Bitter Blood is a spin on the beloved Spritz that adds a bit of vanilla-spiced Licor 43 to tame the intensity of Campari. The Caribbean Cruise gives us the chance to talk about the risks and rewards of grenadine and other no-alcohol syrups and juices, which have to be calculated carefully if they’re going into the freezer. The Daiquiri Colada shows you how easy it is to infuse your own rum with lime and pull off a fancy-sounding fat wash with coconut oil. The Amalfi Lemon Margarita is a twist on a Margarita where limoncello stands in for both the citrus and the simply syrup called for in the classic version. And finally, J.M’s freezer door version of the Cosmo requires a surprising ingredient that you’re going to want to keep on hand. As we mix, freeze and taste, you'll learn how to make smart substitutions that work within the confines of the freezer. Come to this class to prepare for barbecues, parties and casual weeknight gatherings all summer long.
