Tom Landry: A Life in Football

On view through August 9, 2026

Tom Landry: A Life in Football presents photographs from Landry’s life in football, from his early years in Mission, Texas, to his college career at the University of Texas and his professional career with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. Together, these images trace the arc of a career defined by discipline, leadership, and a lasting impact on the game of football.

In 1959, Landry became the first head coach of the newly established Dallas Cowboys. Over a 29-year career (1960–1988), he achieved 20 consecutive winning seasons (1966–1985). As head coach, he led the team to two Super Bowl championships, five NFC titles, and 13 division titles, many of them during the team’s years at Texas Stadium in Irving.

Why We Serve

On view through May 31st, 2026

This poignant exhibition tells personal stories of Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Alaska Native veterans who have served in the armed forces of the United States—often in extraordinary numbers—since the American Revolution. For some, the Indigenous commitment to the U.S. military doesn’t make sense. Why would Native people serve a country that overran their homelands, suppressed their cultures, and confined them to reservations? Why We Serve brings long overdue recognition to the Native veterans who have served their country selflessly and with honor for more than 250 years.

Service Beyond Duty

On view through May 31st, 2026

Service Beyond Duty is presented as a local/regional companion exhibition to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian’s Why We Serve exhibition. The exhibition will feature two Cherokee Nation veterans of the United States Air Force and two Wichita and Affiliated Tribes veterans of the United States Marine Corps and the US Army. Also featured are two digital experiences spotlighting Native American Medal of Honor Recipients from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, presented with generous support from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Both exhibitions come together to tell the story of countless Native American veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces for more than two centuries, dating back to the American Revolution.
