Members: Free; Non-members: $10 per family
10am - 11am
Join us for seasonal nature and science programs each second Saturday of the month. Designed for children with their parents, these programs will explore cool topics in nature. No registration required. Groups of 6 or more please call ahead.
 
December 14: Nocturnal Life:  When the sun sets many of us get ready for rest, but there is a whole world that is just waking up! Get ready for some night life (during the day) and learn about why and how some animals are active while we’re all asleep.
 
January 11: Digging for Dinosaurs: Dinosaurs lived on our planet for over 165 million years- that’s more than 1,000 times longer than modern humans have existed! Come to the Hitchcock Center to explore the different groups of dinosaurs and learn which dinosaurs lived here in the Pioneer Valley
 
**February 1 Note this program will be on the first Saturday**: The Great Grey Squirrel: Although you probably see them everywhere, in cities, in forests, and right in your own backyard,  how much do you really know about them? Come appreciate the greatness of the grey squirrel and all the adaptations that allow it to survive all year here in New England. 
 
March 14: Backbones Not Required: Ranging in size from microscopic to gigantic, invertebrates make up the largest group of animals in the animal kingdom. Come learn about some awesome invertebrates with the Hitchcock Center!  Be prepared to get hands on with one of the Hitchcock Centers spineless teaching animals. 
 
April 11: Our Oceans:  It might be a little early to be planning a trip to the beach but come to the Hitchcock Center for a summer sneak preview. For this Saturday Science we’ll dive into the marine life that lives on the Massachusetts coast. Learn how we can protect our oceans and the plants and animals that live in them.
 
May 9: Bloodsuckers in your Backyard: Hematophagy is the practice by certain animals of feeding on blood, and all sorts of animals do it! Some fish, mammals, insects, even certain birds enjoy the protein rich blood as a main staple in their diet.  Come to the Hitchcock Center to learn more about these fascinating bloodsuckers and which lives around us. 
 
June 13: Life in the Pond:  Have you ever looked at the murky surface of a pond and wondered, “What’s down there”?  Come find out with the Hitchcock Center as we look at the diversity of animal life that can be found in a pond and how things survive under the surface.
