Second Saturday: Collagraph Printmaking

TheCape Ann Museumtells multiple stories, all relating to a single remarkable place. From its earliest days as a fishing and shipping port to its mid-19th century role in the granite industry, to its singular charms of light and sea that have attracted countless artists from the 19th century to the present, Cape Ann boasts a rich and varied culture of nationally significant historical, industrial, and artistic achievement. The Museum'sfine art collectionincludes the largest grouping of works by native son and renowned marine artist,Fitz Henry Lane, as well as work by other prominent painters and sculptors who lived on, visited or were inspired by Cape Ann. The work of contemporary Cape Ann artists is also collected and exhibited. The permanent collection includes fine and decorative arts, and artifacts from the major industries of the area - the fisheries and granite quarrying.

Meet Museum Educator Kendall Reynolds in the Museum’s Maritime Gallery to learn about our First Order Fresnel Lens, installed in 1861 in one of the twin lighthouses on Rockport’s Thacher Island. We’ll read Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall to learn about the importance of lighthouses to the fishing industry then we’ll head down to the Activity Center to do a lighthouse print project using the collagraph printing technique.Free for Museum members, families with school-age children, Cape Ann residents or with Museum admission. Space is limited; registration required.CAM Kids: Second Saturdays: The second Saturday of every month is free for families with school-aged children. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., families are invited to tour the galleries or take a free workshop in the Activity Center. Each month has a different theme or special guest related to the art, history and culture of Cape Ann. Reservations required for workshops and events.*When making a reservation, please reserve space for the amount of children that will be participating in programming. (Do not include parents/guardians/caregivers when noting quantity)
