About this event

  • 4 hours

The evening begins with an illustrated talk about seaside fashion, followed by an immersive eco fragrance workshop.

FASHION

In this illustrated talk, fashion historian Amber Butchart considers the links between fashion and the seaside. From the health benefits of 18th century sea bathing - seen again today as cold water swimming - to the promenade as the first catwalk, the seaside has long been considered a fashionable space. Discover the origins of naval uniform and why it continues to provide perennial inspiration for the fashion world from Gautier to Chanel, as well as the fishermen's clothing that has inspired couture copies, as we travel from the coastlines of Britain to the shores of the French Riviera.

BEAUTY

Daphna Rowe, Founder of natural perfume house Lovorika, will lead a fragrant immersive workshop, teaching you how to uncover the hidden nasties in beauty labels, walk you through perfume composition, and will guide you towards creating a bespoke version of our Mer fragrance for you to take home. The aroma from natural ingredients have been used for mental, spiritual and physical healing since the beginning of recorded history. However, synthetic fragrance, found in all household products such as perfume, deodorant, washing up liquid, detergent, etc., has a detrimental effect on our mental & physical health as well as the environment & marine life.
