Join us for a special film screening of Searching for Augusta Savage to celebrate the life of leading Harlem Renaissance sculptor Augusta Savage (on her leap year birthday).
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about Savage—one of the unsung artists and advocates for art education in this country—with Tammi Lawson, curator of the Art and Artifacts Division at NYPL’s Schomburg Center, and filmmakers Sandy Rattley and Charlotte Mangin. Panelists will explore why this civil rights activist and artist is important to know and teach about in the classroom.
This event will introduce participants to new teaching tools to support the incorporation of Savage’s story into social studies classes.
Presented by MyLibraryNYC, WNET-Channel 13, and Audacious Women Productions
