About this event

The Death Valley Natural History Association and the National Park Service are pleased to continue the walking tours of Scotty's Castle Grounds. This unique tour allows visitors to take a first-hand look at the ongoing recovery efforts since the October 2015 flood. Fees collected from this tour will be used to help with preservation work in this historic district.

Walking tours are scheduled most Sundays at 9 am, from December 10, 2023 - March 10, 2024. Tickets are $35 per person, plus the ticketing fee. Space is limited to 20 participants per tour and must be purchased 48 hours in advance.


Tour Details:

Duration:

9:30 am to 12:30 pm (PST). Approximately 2 hours of walking and touring the grounds and Castle.

Meet-up Location:

Meet at the Grapevine Ranger Station at 9:30 am (PST). It is recommended to arrive at least 5 to 10 minutes. You will be driving your own personal vehicle, following the directions of a National Park Service Ranger. ***PARTICIPANTS WILL NOT ENTER CLOSED AREAS WITHOUT A NATIONAL PARK SERVICE RANGER PRESENT​***

***Please note that participants will be driving through a closed road that has been impacted by flooding from Hurricane Hilary. The road will have sections of gravel debris, missing pavement, and other hazards. It is the responsibility of the tour participants to ensure that their vehicles are in good working condition and drive safely and cautiously while in the closed area.***


Accessibility:

Approximately two hours of walking over uneven surfaces. Not suitable for those with difficulty standing or walking. The tour is NOT handicap accessible due to flood damage and construction.

Effort:

Moderate/Strenuous. For safety reasons, children under 10 years of age are not allowed on the walking tour.

What to Bring:

Tour participants must wear comfortable closed-toe walking shoes. It is recommended to pack plenty of water, snacks, sun protection, insect repellent for biting gnats, and warm layers. Flash photography and videotaping are allowed. NO PETS ALLOWED.

Amenities:

Flush Toilets are available at the Grapevine Ranger Station. Portable Toilets are located on the Scotty's Castle grounds.


FAQs

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes! The name on the ticket doesn't have to match the participant, but space is limited. To be allowed on the tour participants must have a ticket proving reservation. This ticket will be emailed to you after purchase.

What if I accidentally book the wrong date?

Please pay close attention that you are choosing the right tour date when booking. The tours fill quickly, and there is no guarantee we can move your ticket if booked for the wrong date.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Email memberships@dvnha.org or call 775-764-0727. If you need to contact us please do so 48 hours in advance, internet and phone access are unavailable within the park. If you contact us on the weekend you will not receive a response until Monday. All important information regarding your tour will be sent via email.

What's the refund policy?

There are NO REFUNDS if you are unable to attend or miss the departure time. However, if the tour is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances including weather, staffing, park closure, etc. you will receive a full refund. We kindly remind you that all ticket purchase revenue supports our restoration and preservation efforts at Scotty's Castle.
