The Award Show for Fossil Records
Science, Tonight is a late-night comedy talk show with guests scientists who are prepared, and improvisers who are not, to talk about science. Host Dr. Mark Popinchalk and the Science, Tonight reporting team are going to have their hands full keeping the show on the road as scientists and literal forces of nature have their turn in the hot seat.
Plus free sticker, games, and more!
Dr. Mark Popinchalk (he/him) is an astronomer at the American Museum of Natural History, an adjunct professor, and host of the comedy talk show Science Tonight. He is also a planetarium presenter, ultimate frisbee player, and bread maker. His favorite color is sky-blue-pink. (@markpopinchalk)
Kristina Gustovich (she/her) is an Earth scientist, performer, and educator. On stage, she’s puttin’ on the Ritz in Yesterday’s Horoscope and reporting live from Science, Tonight! Off stage, Kristina is a doctoral student at Columbia's Teachers College studying science education in informal settings like museums (and Caveat!). Find her at @mucho_gustovich on Instagram.
Iman Behbehani (she/her) is a masters student at the CUNY Graduate Center studying stellar explosions, from dwarf novae to supernovae. Iman is a producer for Astro on Tap, and started an affinity group for women of color in stem, as she strives to make science more fun and inclusive. Outside of astro, Iman enjoys boxing and riding her bike along riverside park. (Insta: @astroontapnyc)
Kate Schmidt (she/her) is a manager at the American Museum of Natural History's library, where she helps people connect with the history of science and understand the place of science in our modern lives. On the side, she hosts and produces Biology on Tap, a monthly program that brings scientists to a Brooklyn bar so we can all celebrate the beauty of our planet together. Her favorite animal is the monarch butterfly and her favorite rock is limestone. (Instagram: @atomicstitches)
Nic Comparato (they/them) is a wildlife biologist specializing in bats and bioacoustics. They are an associate field biologist at NYC Bird Alliance and PhD student with the Aronson Lab at Rutgers University. In addition to their research, Nic co-produces a science-themed drag show (They Blinded Me With Science) and recently started Urban Bat Project NYC, a community science initiative connecting New Yorkers with their local bats. As an openly transgender scientist, they are also an advocate for LGBTQIA+ representation in STEM.
Dr. Noah Guiberson (he/him) is a neuroscientist who studies how brain cells try (and sometimes fail) to communicate with each other. When he’s not pipetting, he co-hosts Facts Machine – a science comedy show (and science trivia showdown) by and for people who are curious about everything, but especially the things that make them laugh! and special guest
Dr. Scott Evans is a curator and professor at the AMNH. Growing up in upstate New York, he loved exploring local rock deposits and collecting ancient marine creatures preserved as fossils. Today, he studies fossils of soft-bodied organisms from around the world to learn everything from why they are preserved, to how they functioned, to what they can tell us about the history of life and changing conditions on Earth.
