SCHOLAR'S LECTURE

FU QIUMENG FINE ART

65 E 80TH STREET

Friday, June 10, 6 pm - 8 pm

In this Scholar‘s Lecture, Dr. Chao Ling will use the Tang poet Li Shen’s (772–846) 李紳 “Twenty Poems on the New Tower” 新樓詩二十首 as an example to discuss some linguistic and poetic issues. First, how do Chinese poets, responding to the challenge of a syntactically tenseless Chinese language, articulate temporal concepts—such as the sense of temporality, grammatical aspect, and instant in time? Also, why does poetry, which is primarily about spatial constructs (in particular high towers), often yield to a reflection on time?

Fu Qiumeng Fine Art  is a New York-based art space. By offering a unique perspective on the relationship between artistic creation and the collecting of art, it serves as an interdisciplinary research and development platform at the interface of art, business, and society.

In the realm of global contemporary art, Fu Qiumeng Fine Art aims to reposition Asia contemporary art. It primarily focuses on the breaking down of the bifurcation between traditional aesthetics and contemporary art and on the reconfiguration of the cultural division between East and West. We believe that this will help us retrace the past, envision the future, and, most importantly, redefine the present.
