Save the World with Your PhD
A conversation with industry experts on environmental organizations.
The world and our environment are changing at a faster rate than ever before. As a result, a huge variety of industries and fields of science are focused on sustainability.
Are you interested in advancing sustainability but are not sure how your research (or field) is applicable?
Sustainability endeavors range from technical to social. It involves fields from physical sciences, chemistry, biology, engineering, social science, the humanities, computer sciences, and (of course) environmental science... among many others!
Join us with our guests Sarah (Weber) Hertel and Seth Collins for a broad discussion of the many careers in sustainability.
You will leave this workshop with confidence that your PhD (no matter what field!) is extremely useful in addressing many important sustainability issues. For example, a PhD who studies gut bacteria in insects is perfectly capable of advancing scientific environmental protection efforts at a variety of large companies.
Sarah is a Social Science PhD candidate in Environmental Science at George Mason University exploring the socio-political factors involved in rewilding. She is also involved with One Earth, a not for profit working to accelerate collective action in climate change.
Seth Collins is from the edtech startup Terra.do whose goal is to have 100 million people working in sustainability by 2030. As a PhD-getter or a PhD-holder, you are certainly qualified to be one of them.
