Learn the Japanese art of decorative mending in this 2-hour class

Back by popular demand: The Beautiful and Practical Art of Sashiko Mending

Sashiko (literally “little stabs”) is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery from Japan. Traditional sashiko was used to reinforce points of wear, or to repair worn places or tears with patches.

Kits, including fabric swatches, Sashiko needles, specialized thimbles and thread will be provided and can be taken home after the class.

Basic hand-sewing skills are a pre-requisite for this class.

Weds, January 15, 6:30-8:30pm (Doors at 6:15, no admittance after 6:45)
@ The Depot Store: 4695 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA

Instructor Cirrus Wood is a self-taught artisan who enjoys coming up with and learning fun designs to make clothing more visually appealing and more durable. He runs his own mending and tailoring business 'Muzhik' - named for the Russian word for peasant, but a muzhik is also someone resourceful, someone who can be relied upon to come up with a creative fix.
