No matter your acreage or experience level, managing for habitat and wildlife can be challenging for most landowners, especially in the Sandhills! Join us to learn about the benefits of prescribed fire, native plants, beneficial insects, and herpetofauna in your landscape. You will have the opportunity to speak with experts to learn about habitat management to improve your property and make it inviting to wildlife.
We will meet at the Sandhills Depot in Hoffman (2995 US Highway 1) and caravan/carpool through Block B of the Sandhills Game Lands. We will make several stops to look at recently burned areas and see what's in bloom. Hopefully we'll spot bees, butterflies, turtles, snakes, and more!
Please wear appropriate attire for being in the field, including long pants and close-toed shoes. Feel free to bring sunscreen and bug spray as there are likely to be biting insects. Lunch will be provided thanks to a generous donation by the NC Tree Farm Program. We will plan on eating in the field so bring a camp/folding chair if you are not comfortable sitting on a tailgate, vehicle, or the ground.
**IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, WE WILL MEET INSTEAD at 10:00 ON JUNE 6th.
