About this event

  • 5 hours

Discover San Leandro architecture and history on this self-guided tour of beautiful homes and buildings. Highlights this year include the Best House (an Italianate-style home built in 1878 and once home of entrepreneur and inventor Daniel Best); a grand Tudor Revival-style home that once housed a convent; and the Streamline Moderne-style Historic Bal Theatre.

For this self-guided tour, you'll pick up your tour booklet at the Historical Society's Little Brown Church, which will open at 10:30 a.m. (earlier than the tour starts) and remain open for booklet pickup until 3:00 p.m. You'll have from 12pm until 5pm to visit the rest of the sites at your own pace.

The keepsake booklet is your "ticket". It provides a map and site addresses, architectural information and history, past and present photos, and bonus material. This year's extras include articles about Daniel Best, the Best Building and Best Theater, Caterpillar Tractor, and more.

Consider an extra donation to help us fund more San Leandro events. Thank you!

THE OPTIMIST CLUB OF SAN LEANDRO

Organized by

We acknowledge and honor this area as the traditional Halkin (Jalquin) homeland of the Chochenyo and Bay Mewuk Ohlone people. These fifteen square miles between San Francisco Bay and the East Bay hills have supported many peoples whose culture and heritage weave a rich historical tapestry underlying the major metropolitan suburb of today. The volunteers of the San Leandro Historical Society are committed to sharing and preserving the stories, heritage, and structures of our diverse community.
