About this event

The goal of this 'SRE Open Forum' to foster open and free communication to bring tangible progress in SRE field and let it's end users realize the benefits. Grassroot SRE engineers will be able to have unshackled discussions on the good, bad and ugly and in process also shape up the direction of the industry.

What will be the agenda?

SRE Open Forum is intended to be quick rapid fire brainstorming session to challenge generally acceptable urban myths, identify gaps, lay out vision of roadmap and pick up micro topics that fit into completion of that roadmap.

Agenda will be decided on spot. As an open forum you are welcome to moderate sessions or suggest topic.

Sample agenda are- AIOps, Availability, MTTA, MTTD, MTTR, end user satisfaction etc

Barebone structure of discussion

While agenda is fluid, topics will be fit into one of these three categories

  1. 'Pre-Alert' phase
  2. 'In-Alert' phase
  3. 'Post-Alert' phase

First one minute of session is 'silent wait time' to give time to participants to join and minds to settle down.

What's happening with SRE?

SRE is much needed by enterprises but highly misused and misapplied. Unless there is tangible positive impact that is reported by end users outside the echo chamber of the 'IT groups' and 'IT metrics', SRE could run down the course of hype cycle.

Just for example- 'Availability'. There is virtually no discussion on how poor an indicator it is for end user satisfaction based on how it is computed. Just 1% of downtime in year equals 87 hours of outage. Further, the availability is measured based on less than 1% of total transactions and failure is based on high threshold. Other than highly visible incidents, there is virtually no addressing intermittent issues or outside select transactions.

A lot of lack of discussions is down to seminars and workshop being intended to promote a service or product and not be the voice of the end users to challenge in-vogue definitions and mindset.

Organized by

The weekly 30 minutes forum is designed to bring out competing view points and frank discussions on merits and demerits of any approach.

Now there is no need to wait to attend expensive seminars and go through canned presentations that hide complexities and tradeoffs involved.
