This workshop will be led by UC Berkeley professor Nassirah Nelson:

Nassirah is a visual artist, multidisciplinary designer, and STEM educator whose work is rooted in social practice. Her work explores ways to recontextualize and teach STEM through the arts, specifically creative technologies. She works across a variety of mediums and aims to create projects that foster inclusivity and connections through collaboration and play.

She is the founder of Sample Mode: Introduction to Sound Design, Beat-making, and Creative Music Technologies, A Berkeley Changemaker Course. Her class is designed to offer students the space to explore and develop both their STEM and creative identities through the art of sampling, music production, design thinking, and digital fabrication.

HiiiWAV is a nonprofit organization founded in 2020 by music producer and inventor Bosko Kante. We help black musician-entrepreneurs leverage their fan base to create high growth businesses that don’t depend on gigs and streaming. We are located in Oakland, California and we own and operate a 8,000 square foot recording studio. Our mission is to help grow profitable, culturally rich, and socially impactful companies that build generation wealth and timeless music in the black community. We envision a world where Black musician-entrepreneurs of all genders benefit from their music, build lasting businesses, and uplift their communities. We host events that bring together musicians, technologists, and creatives of all disciplines to create art and build new business models. Artists who are accepted into our program participate in an intense 2 week residency followed by a year of support from experts, mentors, alums to help them evolve and grow their business.
