Sample Math Circles - Fall 2017

Emory Math Circle

These sample classes are aimed at students in grades 6 - 12 who have never before participated in a math circle. We've also decided to also allow curious parents to sign up for and attend a sample class! We don't recommend that current students sign up, as we'll repeat a lesson plan that was already used this semester. 
What is a math circle? 
Math circles bring K-12 students together with mathematically sophisticated leaders in an informal setting to work on interesting problems or topics in mathematics. Math circles combine significant content with a setting that encourages a sense of discovery and excitement about mathematics through problem-solving and interactive exploration. Athletes have sports teams through which to deepen their involvement with sports; math circles can play a similar role for kids who like to think.
Which class should I sign up for? 
Please choose one date that corresponds with your math circle level. Note that we'll use the same material for both sample classes of a given level, so you should only sign up for one of them. Your math circle level is determined by your current math class.
Level A is for students taking:

<LI>Accelerated 6/7A</LI>
<LI>7th Grade Math</LI>
</UL>
Level B is for students taking: 
<UL>
<LI>Accelerated 7B/8</LI>
<LI>8th Grade Math or Pre-Algebra</LI>
<LI>Algebra 1 or Coordinate Algebra</LI>
</UL>
Level C is for students taking:  
<UL>
<LI>Accelerated Coordinate Algebra / Geometry A</LI>
<LI>Geometry or Analytic Geometry</LI>
<LI>Accelerated Geometry B / Advanced Algebra</LI>
<LI>Algebra 2 or Advanced Algebra</LI>
<LI>Precalculus</LI>
<LI>Calculus and other advanced courses</LI>
</UL>
Other Logistics Details
We must have a <A HREF="https://waiver.fr/p-LOmAc" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">waiver</A> on file for each participating student.  Parking is free.  The only thing you need to bring with you is something to write with, although we'll have some extra pencils if you forget!
