Sample Live Virtual Lecture: A Modern Multi-Core Processor

This is a live lecture about the key ideas that make modern parallel processors run fast, delivered on new kind of virtual lecture platform.

For computer science and engineering students, this lecture will introduce the key concepts that underlie how modern parallel processors, such as multi-core CPUs and GPUs, attain high performance. Students will be able to ask live questions during the lecture and participate in short small group breakouts to discuss key ideas.For educators and anyone planning virtual talks and conferences, this event will demonstrate how to hold an interactive, multi-hundred person live event using the ohyay platform. Since switching to teaching virtually during the pandemic, I have found that live attendance at lecture has gone up compared to regular in-classroom teaching. Virtual teaching does not mean live, synchronous lectures <a href="http://graphics.stanford.edu/~kayvonf/notes/virtualclassroom/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">can&#x27;t be compelling events.</a> After the talk I will hold a 20-minute live Q&amp;A about how I created and operated the virtual classroom. The classroom will be available for others to clone, modify, and use for their own purposes.---Kayvon Fatahalian is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. This lecture comes from his parallel computing course at Stanford that he originally developed while at Carnegie Mellon University.
