The SAME DC Post serves Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) members located or visiting Washington, DC and its surrounding areas in Maryland and Virginia. SAME leads collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges. Founded in 1920, SAME unites public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the architecture, engineering, construction, environmental and facility management, cyber security, project planning, contracting and acquisition, and related disciplines in support of national security.The SAME DC Post is a 100%  voluntary organization with an elected local Board of Directors and committees dedicated to serving the membership, providing educational content, industry and government engagement, building resilient communities, connecting with our future leaders through our student and young member groups, enriching the STEM pipeline, and preparing our military and veterans for life after the service.

<h2>SAME DC Post - First Friday Webinar Series</h2>Friday, March 1, 202312:00 pm – 1:00 pm ETWEBEX Virtual PlatformEarn 1 PDH each sessionThrough a commitment to offering effective training, development and networking programs, SAME DC Post is helping sustain the future of the profession with monthly education-focused sessions to deliver topical and relevant content to our industry.Our program offers a one-hour educational professional development opportunity on the first Friday of each month via a virtual platform, hosted by the SAME DC Post. Lunch is NOT included in the ticket (but you may eat your lunch while watching the session). Follow up questions by chat are encouraged.This program is free to SAME members and students, and $25 for non-members. Please note, you must attend the live session to receive a one-hour (1 HR) PDH certificate from the SAME DC Post. Registration required.Registered ticket holders will find the event link in their registration Online Event Page. The link to the session will also be emailed 24 hours before the program begins. Please add programs@samedc.org to your safe senders list. The email you use to register will be the email that receives the link.REFUND POLICYThis event is non-refundable for paid ticket holders because all attendees receive a link to the live program immediately upon registration. SESSION INFORMATION<h2>Building Secure Systems: Integrating Security By Design &amp; Risk Management Throughout the Project Lifecycle</h2>In today's interconnected world, securing critical infrastructure systems encompassing Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) is paramount. Cyber vulnerabilities in either domain can have cascading consequences, impacting national security, public safety, and economic stability. This presentation will explore the critical need for Security by Design (SbD) and integrated risk management throughout the project lifecycle to ensure IT and OT system security and resilience. <h3>Learning Objectives</h3><ol><li>Understand the evolving threat landscape and unique challenges of securing IT and OT convergence. </li><li>Explore the principles and benefits of SbD in building secure systems. </li><li>Learn how to integrate risk management into the project lifecycle for proactive security risk identification and mitigation. </li><li>Discover practical strategies and best practices for implementing SbD and risk management across IT and OT systems. </li><li>Gain insights into emerging trends and future directions in securing critical infrastructure.</li></ol> <h3>Learning Units</h3>This virtual session offers one (1) Professional Development Hour (PDH) certified by the SAME DC Post for live participants.

<h3>About the Presenters</h3> Gus Morales, MS, CISSP, is a seasoned cybersecurity expert at Gannett Fleming. In his role, he specializes in detecting security threats, formulating preventative strategies, and crafting rapid recovery plans, leveraging his expertise in the Center for Internet Security (CIS) standards. Passionate about continuous learning and career growth, he thrives on tackling challenging projects that demand innovative thinking and values team collaboration. Gus holds a MS in information assurance and cybersecurity from Nova Southeastern University and a BS in computer information systems from California State University Los Angeles.Bosco Chan, CISSP, is a distinguished cybersecurity and privacy professional. He possesses a deep understanding of assessing privacy and information risks, which he combines with his background in financial and legal impact analysis to provide comprehensive risk management solutions. Bosco's ability to effectively communicate complex cybersecurity and privacy issues to boards of directors and senior leaders has made him a sought-after speaker.
