Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have a pair of dance shoes?

It is not mandatory to have a pair of dance shoes. Based on your physical conditions and preference, you can dance with socks as well. However, shoes with rubber sole that grips are not recommended. Something that allows you to slide over the dance floor is ideal.

Do I need to wear a facial mask?

No, currently we are not mandating a facial mask. We have a high-power air-purifier onsite. However, it is always advised to use precautions for the prevention of Covid and other airborne diseases. Please refrain from attending the class if you have non-allergy coughing, sneezing or high fever.

I have never danced. Can I try?

Yes, anyone above 15 year-old who are interested in learning Samba and able to dance is welcome to attend the Beginning Samba. If you have any physical limitations such as injuries, issues with the range of motion, sensory issues with balance, etc., please notify the instructor prior to the class.

Can I take both Beginning and Intermediate?

If you are already familiar with the Samba fundamentals, or if you have previous dance training, please feel welcome to take both Beginning and Intermediate. A discounted combo ticket is available. Please note that there are fewer modifications offered in Intermediate classes.

Is this a series class? Can I just take one class?

This class happens regularly on Saturdays, but the classes are part of a monthly series. You are welcome to take a single class or purchase the monthly series ticket. Please note that there are choreographies that students are learning over the series.

Do I need to arrive early before the class?

Yes, if you are attending this class for the first time, please arrive 10 minutes before the class to check our waiver form and sign it.

Where do I park?

School of Arts & Culture at Mexican Heritage has two designated parkings, one on Alum Rock Ave. and the other on King St. We recommend King St. parking for the ease of navigation. There is a gate from each parking to the facility, and class is at Studio on the ground floor, next to the School office
