About this event

  • 3 hours

Our Saltwater Fishing Clinics are introductory classes to saltwater fishing. These clinics will teach skills on how to tie fishing knots, how to rig a rod and reel, casting, and the best part is everyone will get to try their hand at fishing. Kids from ages 4 to adults are welcome, so come out and play, enjoy the outdoors, and make this a Fishing Fun Day! You must RSVP to attend.

Details for the event:

What to bring: Dress is casual. Check the weather report and dress appropriately as you will be outside. Other items to consider bringing include hat, sunglasses, bug spray and reusable water bottle. All fishing supplies will be provided for the duration of the clinic.

Fishing License: If you are planning on fishing during the clinic and you are 16 years or older, you must have a valid SC saltwater fishing license. You can either purchase one online here or you can purchase one at our SCDNR Titling Offices. We do now have a new SCDNR Tilting Office in Horry County. Address is 640 9th Ave, Aynor, SC 29511 (Open M-F, 8:30-5PM, with the exception of Wed. mornings, open at 9:30AM). You can also buy a license at Walmart, sporting goods stores, or tackle shops.

Costs: The clinic is free of charge.

Weather: Clinics are held rain or shine unless hazardous weather occurs

Parking: Parking will be at the Kimbel Lodge and the clinic will take place in the screened Pond Shelter (behind Kimbel Lodge). As soon as you pull into Hobcaw Barony from Hwy 17, turn right and drive through the parking lot (you will pass the Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center on your LEFT). Follow the green signs to the Kimbel Center (bear right). You will see the Kimbel Center (it has a fresh coat of burnt orange stain on the wrap around deck); park in the gravel parking lot on the right side of the building.

NEW: Due to erosion to Clambank, we MUST use a passenger van for anyone that doesn't have children with them under the age of 18. If you are registering and have children, you can follow. If you are adults 18 and over, you MUST ride the van to the fishing spot and back after the clinic.
