Salt Marsh Explorers (2026)

Salt Marsh Explorers (2026)

Overview

Come explore the salt marsh and beaches of BHI with us!

In our Salt Marsh Explorers program, children will explore the harbor beaches (access 1 to access 3) with seine nets, dip nets and cast nets while learning fun facts along the way! We welcome all children age 5 and up and is a great additional class if your child has done Kids Fishing and Crabbing with us!

What Your Kids Will Learn

  • What’s lives in the intertidal zone: We’ll bring our cast nets and see what we catch- small fish, shrimp, shells, maybe even a blue crab or needle fish!
  • Tides: Discover how tides work and how they impact our local beaches.
  • Sea Shells & Shark Teeth: Identify the sea shells found on the harbor beaches. If we are lucky we may even find shark teeth!
  • Shorebirds and BHI Wildlife: Discover and learn about the birds and animals that call the harbor home.
  • BHI Environmental Education: Learn about marsh grasses and habitats, the importance of Leave No Trace and why you should always fill the holes you dig!

Weather Policy

We actively monitor weather conditions throughout the program to ensure safety. If lightning is detected within 12 miles or if there is torrential rain, we will leave the beach and seek shelter at the closest safe location.
