About this event

  • 1 hour

Salt Choreographies is a performance workshop led by Osías Yanov, accompanied by Dani Zelko, that expands the meaning of salt in its historical and molecular sense. Salt crystallization is a process that emerges from the edges as opposed to the center. Gathered in a temporary human collective, participants in the workshop will explore mutuality as a dynamic process of growth from the periphery.

The first phase of Salt Choreographies begins with a two-hour workshop inviting fifteen participants to engage in the crystallization process through a series of mythological and chemical readings and a set of choreographed prompts. The movements that emerge from the prompts will be recorded and interpreted together as a group. Reflecting on salt’s material transformations from molecule to crystal, the second phase of the event, open to the public, synthesizes each participant’s response into a collective experience that manifests the subtle and inherent potential of mutuality.

The stories formed throughout Salt Choreographies aim to decolonize individual imagination by contributing to a collective memory. This performance workshop derives from Osías’s research, performance, and installation Choreographies of Salt, and is held in parallel to Cantando Bajito: Incantations, an exhibition that features Osías’s work at the Ford Foundation Gallery, open through August 10, 2024.
