Over the span of 2 hours, we will dive deep into Safety Release Technique through improvisational and somatic experiences and progress towards more complex movement patterns that travel in-and-out-and-across the floor. We will ask questions in open discussion and find personal modes of play and artistic exploration within ourselves. This workshop will focus on breath, slowing ourselves down, and exploring motion of the spine and joints to ultimately experience movement efficiency and freeing frozen tension.
*Previous dance experience is suggested, dancers of all backgrounds are welcome. Dancers are encouraged to wear long sleeves and loose-fitting pants to allow for floor work and ease of movement; knee-pads are optional.
**Safety Release Technique (SRT) is a somatic movement application created and developed by B.J. Sullivan. Safety Release Technique is a dancing methodology that premises the moving body from a skeletal perspective. SRT specifically focuses on the spine action and the major joints directing energy and motion efficiently and freeing frozen tension. The class proceeds organically and cumulatively from a somatic awareness into rigorous physicality and artistic expression.
