What We DoNAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families. For over 40 years, NAMI Minnesota has worked to promote the development of community mental health programs and services, change public attitudes about mental illnesses, improve access to services and increase opportunities for recovery.  NAMI Minnesota champions justice, dignity, and respect for all people affected by mental illnesses. <h2>SafeTALK</h2>Learn how to support someone’s desire for safety by recognizing the warning signs of suicide, identifying people who are at risk, and applying the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person to suicide first aid resources. Listed on the national best practice registry, safeTALK allows time for both practice and discussion. safeTALK is based on research that shows people experiencing thoughts of suicide often send out subtle invitations to help them stay safe. This four-hour class is for members of the community over the age of 16 who want to learn and practice the basic best practices in suicide prevention. This class has been approved by the Board of Social Work to provide 4 CEU’s upon completion. OPTIONAL: Post-Workshop Discussion led by author Reverend Racheal Keefe on Theology, Faith Communities, and Suicide Prevention.NOTE: This class is hosted by <a href="https://www.mhconnect.org/about-us" title="https://www.mhconnect.org/about-us" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mental Health Connect</a>, a collaborative of Twin Cities faith communities working together to help destigmatize mental illness and make sure all are able to find the help they need. They have a grant to cover the cost of the workshop for all participants.
