Regional Post Adoption Consortium Services (RPACS) is excited to offer a series of FREE quarterly trainings focused on adoption. These trainings are made possible by generous funding through Virginia Department of Social Services and trainers Denise Purgold, LCSW (UMFS) and Jennifer Surratt, LCSW (C2Adopt).
We welcome folks to attend all four trainings or pick and choose according to availability or topic of interest. All trainings will be on ZOOM from 10a-12p for each of the dates offered.

9.21.23 The Impact of Trauma on Neurodevelopment w/ Denise Purgold
Learn about how traumatic events experienced by adoptees impacts social, emotional and cognitive development. Learn about how children manage traumatic events and resources for better understanding the impact of trauma in our kids' lives.
12.21.23 Adoption in Schools w/ Jennifer Surratt
Learn about how schools can better support adoptees through discussing adoption as one way to form families, incorporating adoption into curriculum materials, and eliminating harmful assignments.
3.21.24 The 7 Core Issues in Adoption w/ Denise Purgold
Learn about the 7 Core Issues, how they arise for adoptees, and how to help manage the impact of these issues at various developmental stages for children and teens.
6.20.24 Attachment and Adoption w/ Jennifer Surratt
Learn about how attachment is formed, how that process is disrupted in adoption (sometimes more than once), and how relationship with parents and other adults can ultimately create healing using relationship for adoptees.
