Description

The News Integrity Initiative (NII) at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism (CUNY) aims to address the root causes of trust decay between news organizations and our communities. A key strategy is to ensure newsrooms are where journalists of diverse lived experiences can thrive and do their best work for communities, despite the business and social pressures we face in today’s democracy.

NII, in partnership with the Democracy Fund, is pleased to invite you as a key influencer to shape new ways we can retain and advance talented journalists driving trust in an increasingly competitive civic information landscape. This includes re-examining critical decision-making norms across all areas of our news organizations.

The meeting will feature a strategic mix of influencers from all levels of various news organizations working at the forefront of changing newsroom culture for next generation audiences. The event is invite-only and will be conducted under Chatham House Rule.

The day will start with a presentation led by Equity in the Center, an initiative that informs organizations on how equity can be operationalized in organizational culture. The afternoon will be a roundtable discussion on applying the research and exploring tactical tools to address some of the pressure points around issues such as managing editorial workflow and equitable access to pathways towards advancement.

With a strategic mix of senior managers, executives and operations leaders in the newsroom, we aim to create new norms on how we might build a healthy racial equity culture in newsrooms.

Contact Jennifer Choi (jennifer.choi@journalism.cuny.edu or 646.758.7874) with any questions.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
