Roots of Renewal: A Bodhi Tree Dedication at RCNV

Join the Resource Center for Nonviolence (RCNV) on Saturday, May 18, 2024, for the “Roots of Renewal: Bodhi Tree Dedication,” a ceremonial handover of the Bodhi tree-an awe-inspiring art piece created by over 200 dedicated community members-to the RCNV, symbolizing our shared commitment to nurturing an environment rich in growth, healing and unity. This significant event not only celebrates the community’s journey but also symbolizes the RCNV’s commitment to integrating nonviolent principles into societal transformation.

The “Roots of Renewal” event is set to take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the RCNV Community Room, featuring an outdoor gathering around the Bodhi Tree—a powerful symbol of peace and enlightenment. Inspired by the tree under which Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment, our Bodhi Tree stands as a reflection of solidarity, and an enduring symbol of the community’s resilience and commitment to overcoming divisiveness through collective action.

Event Highlights:

  • Community Blessing and Welcoming Remarks: Led by RCNV leadership, the event will begin with a non-denominational blessing and opening remarks that set a tone of reverence and solidarity.
  • Reflective Arrival Activity: Participants will engage in grounding activities designed to foster deep personal connections and communal unity.
  • Carousel of Sharing: Featuring talks from community leaders and activists, including insights on justice and nonviolent advocacy.
  • Community Sing: A harmonious musical performance, encapsulating themes of peace, unity, and hope.
  • Closing Reflection and Commitment Ceremony: A moment to reflect on the day’s events and reinforce our collective commitment to nonviolent action and community involvement.

This dedication event serves as a powerful reminder of the values and concerns that unite us, transcending political and personal divides. It encourages a feeling of belonging and mutual respect within our community, inspired by shared values rather than divided by differences.

The Bodhi Tree Dedication is more than just a ceremony; it is a call to action for continued growth and active participation in building a nonviolent future. The RCNV invites community members, activists, and supporters of peace and nonviolence to join us in this poignant celebration.

For those interested in deepening their understanding and commitment to nonviolent action, this event will not only provide insight but also inspiration to carry forward the mission of building inclusive and compassionate communities.
