Risograph Poster/Broadside Workshop & Exchange

Risograph Poster/Broadside Workshop & Exchange

Online event
Saturday, Mar 14 from 10 am to 12 pm MST
Overview

Combine a poem, mantra, or prose with imagery to create a postebroadside; everyone receives a set of unique art prints created by all.

In this beginner-friendly, experimental workshop you'll design a unique art poster or broadside, which is a single-page art print that typically combines poetry, prose, or a favorite mantra with visual imagery. They're often used in social or political movements, for advertising cultural events or ideas, and to showcase poetry or art.

No design, art, or writing experience is necessary, but all are welcome to use whatever skillsets and tools they have available to them.

There will be a brief intro to both broadsides and the Risograph printing process, then we'll use playful, generative prompts to create unique compositions and consider how collaboration, collage, and typography might help you develop your print. Each person will finalize their design for a one-page Riso print(8.5"x11") using one or two-colors. One week after the initial workshop there will be an optional LIVE PRINTING over zoom so that you can see more of the process and get a preview of your prints before they are sent to you via USPS; you'll receive 30 copies of your own broadside, as well as 1 copy of all of the others created in the class.

If you're completely new to Riso and want to know what you're signing up for, here are some examples. In short, Riso printing is very similar to screen printing, but the machine looks like your average copy machine. It has a really fun, vibrant aesthetic and it's environmentally friendly, as it uses soy based ink, rice paper for the stencils and no heat in the printing process.

Class fee covers instruction, printing time, supplies, and shipping costs.
