Event description

Description

Do worst-case scenarios keep you up at night? Register for NAZA’s new risk management training, and you’ll feel better prepared to handle day-to-day challenges, as well as protect yourself and your organization if something more serious occurs. Instructor and NAZA's newest Zone Director, Shelba Waldron, brings 20 years of risk management experience in youth development and mental health settings and will talk about sticky situations including:

  • How to anticipate problem situations in classrooms, bathrooms and other enclosed areas, and outdoors.
  • How to handle sensitive or emotional situations compassionately while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • How to use social media and technology while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • How to prevent medical injuries and minimize liability when they do happen.
  • Other liability and legal situations that can arise.

You’ll learn about what to look for, how to avoid common mistakes, and how to protect yourself and your organization if something does happen. Plus, bring your own examples of challenging workplace situations and scenarios that you wish you had handled differently. With Shelba’s guidance, you’ll share experiences and talk through how to best address them going forward. You’ll leave with practical, effective solutions that you can implement immediately in your program.

Shelba Waldron has a career spanning over two decades in the field of youth development, mental health, and government funding, that has allowed her to be a part of youth programming her entire career. Specifically, she is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and has a background in wellness based initiatives, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and gender specific programming. Shelba has an extensive history in training and consulting on matters related to bullying and has spoken at the National Bullying Conference three out of the last five years on cultural influences that impact bullying and youth. She is has served as a consultant on matters related to risk management and safety for the past decade.
