About this event

For school resource officers/school social workers and law enforcement personnel, RISE will focus on the following Work Tracks:

  • LEO -- Behavioral Threat Assessment Training (Room 205; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday): Provides a proactive, evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who might pose a threat to themselves or others, and for providing intervention before a violent incident occurs.
  • SRO -- Educating Kids About Gun and Gang Violence (EKG2) (Room 205; 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday): Teaches 7th- and 9th-grade students about the legal, medical and emotional consequences of youth gun possession, substance abuse and related gun violence.

DPI, with its expertise in the fields of student support services, facilitating safe environments for learning, and continuing education training for teachers, is uniquely situated to ensure that communities in North Carolina receive the information and technical assistance they need to become better prepared to prevent and respond to all forms of school safety threats. The Center for Safer Schools provides a one-stop shop of school safety information and customer services to schools, law enforcement, youth-serving agencies, juvenile justice officials, community leaders, policymakers, parents and students.
