Do I have to be a poet?

Absolutely not. You don't even have to be an artist. You'll be led through a process that will result in a poem. Don't overthink it ;)

What will we be doing during the session?

We'll ground ourselves, share and connect themes we've all been feeling/thinking about from the past week, and pick a topic from those themes. Then, we'll write for 15 minutes. After, we'll share our poems and gentle feedback with each other.

What if I don't want anyone to criticize my poem?

When you share your poem during a session, you'll always begin by telling the group what kind of feedback you're available for -- if any! You can welcome all feedback (including constructive criticism), celebratory feedback only, or no feedback. The choice is always up to you.

Question 7

Will I have to share my poem?

RIP is grounded in vulnerability and bravery, so we always encourage sharing (and have never had anyone forego sharing yet), but we don't believe in forcing anyone to try something they're not ready to do. You're welcome to decline to share, but the magic of RIP is in being witnessed by others.

How will my intellectual property be protected if I share my poem in a group setting?

Accepted Answer

We state our policy at the start/end of every session that participants are not permitted to share another participant's poem unless given explicit, written permission by the author. You do not have to share if stealing is a concern for you.
