Right to Know, Right to Code

What will this session be about?

Led by Moje Panstwo Foundation and the Open Contracting Partnership, this panel will explore the promise of Open Data from the perspective of Freedom of Information and the need to analyze public procurements in a quick and efficient way, considering that the last 10 years were devoted to many open data initiatives, serving both anti-corruption purposes and better quality of public services. For the Right To Know Day 2021, this session will take a look at the past and see what the future can bring around Open Data and Freedom of Information.

About the speakers:

Karolis Granickas (he/him) leads Open Contracting Partnership's programs in the EU & the Balkans. Before joining the OCP, he contributed to global open government efforts, working with Transparency International Lithuania, Open Government Partnership, the Epsi platform, Open Knowledge International, Open Data Institute, and others.

Monika Kajalidis (she/her) is the COO and Board Member at Moje Państwo Foundation. She is an expert in the field of public policy, particularly in the context of public procurement, open data and the functioning of central and local government administration.

Adriana Homolova (she/her) is a freelance data journalist, nerd in the newsroom, data trainer and public spending research enthusiast. Currently she crunches data on kids in migration for Lost In Europe, helps to organise the marvellous Dataharvest conference and mentors future data journalists through training. Adriana is a member of the Open Spending Coalition.

What is the Summit?

Code for All's 2021 Summit wishes to welcome everyone and anyone interested in civic tech to attend our free sessions. From those who have been involved in the community since its inception to those only hearing about it now - all are welcome to come and find out more, make some friends, and workshop new ways to help.

What exactly is civic tech?

Civic tech, in short, is technology that positively impacts society — but that’s not the whole story. It’s about creating civic innovation tools (tools that help make more democratic, transparent and people centered governments), but it isn’t only about the tools themselves — it’s about the process through which these tools are created.
