Session Details

Main Sessions

Morning Session (faciliated by Teaching Lab) | In today's interconnected world, classroom diversity is represented a through a tapestry of linguistic backgrounds and cognitive abilities. This session aims to shed light on the distinct spectrum of challenges and opportunities students with diverse learning needs face in our schools and classrooms. By imparting valuable insight, we endeavor to equip leaders and stakeholders with the tools necessary to better support this unique group’s academic needs.

Afternoon Session (faciliated by Teaching Lab)| Access to HQIM is an important component of increasing equitable access to a rigorous education that prepares all students for college and careers. Participants will review and provide feedback on the RI HQIM Professional Learning Competencies, while also considering the conditions in their own districts that aid strong curriculum implementation and discuss what systems/structures will support the use of the HQIM professional learning competencies.

Breakout Sessions

  • Foundational Literacy Skills (facilitated by Instructional Partners) | This session will provide an overview of RIDE's foundational literacy instructional priorities and focus areas for Multilingual Learners to understand the rationale for the Early Literacy Toolkit. Participants will explore the toolkit to uncover the blend of Science of Reading research and strategies, English Language Success Forum best practices, and the high-quality curricular materials. Finally, we will highlight the impact of the project on the delivery of excellent foundational literacy instruction that is responsive to the needs of all learners. Offered as morning and afternoon sessions.
  • Deep Dive into Intellectual Prep (facilitated by Teaching Lab)| Participants will explore the intellectual preparation practices that shape the experiences of multilingual learners (MLLs) and differently-abled students. We will discuss the importance of scaffolding for students with diverse learning needs in hopes that participants will adopt inclusive practices that inevitably enrich the educational experiences of this unique group of students.Offered as morning and afternoon sessions.
  • Change Management (facilitated by CPRL) | Participants will engage with facilitators from Columbia University's Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) to learn about the experiences of state districts in using the Curriculum Implementation Change Framework (CICF). This suite of tools is designed to assist state and district leaders in strengthening curricular implementation by systematically understanding how teachers use their materials and what they think about them. CPRL has been working with RIDE and several districts in the state to field test the change management framework and tool suite, understand curriculum implementation progress, provide data-informed support, and track progress over time. Offered as a morning session.
  • RIPTS (facilitated by RIDE) | The Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards (RIPTS) outline what teacher candidates and in-service educators should know and be able to do. They haven't been revised since 2007, and since then, important facets of the teaching profession and teacher training have evolved; therefore, we need to update the RIPTS to reflect the evolution. Please join us to review proposed revisions and provide feedback. Offered as an afternoon session.
