About this event

  • 3 hours

On May 15th, 2024, two towering figures of rugby, Peter Winterbottom MBE and Mike Teague, both former England and British & Irish Lions Rugby icons, arrive in San Francisco from the United Kingdom to lead a crew of cyclists on an epic quest across the rugged heartlands of the Sierras, the Rockies, and all the untamed wilderness in between, culminating 36 days later in the majestic embrace of New York City on June 22nd.

Joining them from New Zealand are former Harlequins F.C and England B player, Craig Luxton, New Zealander & former NZ provincial rugby player James Wilkins now Kiwi fruit farmer & New Zealander | Gerald Patterson former rugby referee, and lastly Irishman & rugby journeyman Harlequins FC, Olympic Club, SF Golden Gate |Paul Brennan who is based here in the Bay Area.

This herculean endeavor commences on May18th, covering a staggering distance of 3250 miles or 5150 km, with an average daily grind of 94 miles but, the true measure of endurance lies not in the miles conquered, but in the camaraderie and unyielding spirit that propels them forward— the spirit to help those battling ALS or Motoneuron Disease (MND) across the globe.

For the riders, this isn't merely a test of physical stamina; it's a determination to eradicate this insidious disease that has claimed the lives of loved ones including Paul's brother Simon Brennan RIP 2020 and of course Doddie Weir OBE RIP 2022, the indomitable Scottish Rugby and British & Irish Lions Rugby legend.

The riders are rallying behind MyName'5 Doddie Foundation, dedicated to supporting families & patients stricken by this deadly disease.

Now, it's our turn to rally behind these warriors, to offer our admiration and unwavering support as they undertake this incredible journey.

Join us at Trinity Irish Bar & Restaurant in San Francisco to send them off with applause and encouragement. The event is free to attend but you need to register, and kindly consider making a donation at the link below. $10, $15, $25, $100.

We will hear from the riders about their rugby playing years and the ride ahead and we will have some classic rugby memorabilia for auction.
