The 40th Street Theatre's StoryThe 40th Street Theatre opened its doors in 1905 under the name Hamilton Street Enterprises, later changing the name to Hamilton Street Theatre. The theatre was originally used for Vaudeville performances, later graduating to “talkies” and eventually transitioning to film by the year 1916. In 1930, the theatre changed hands and was re-named The Winn Theatre and a few years later there was yet another name change to the 40th Street Theatre. Sadly, in 1951 the theatre closed its doors for the final time. Soon after the theatre closing a well known local business took over the property and operated their business here until the late 1970’s. Some of you may remember that business, it went by the name of Martin’s Bakery.The Restoration:John Hargiss and Mary Thorsteinson purchased the buildings in 2012 with the intention of expanding John’s stringed instrument shop. After renovating and re-opening Hargiss Stringed Instruments, the general maintenance of the remaining buildings were addressed. As John and Mary made the repairs here and there small clues were uncovered and the old Vaudeville theatre started to make herself known. With no budget for a major renovation, the couple used all reclaimed materials and took on a pay as you go philosophy. It has taken almost three years but the renovation is very close to being completed.Future Plans:It is our desire to bring back live theatre to the 40th Street Theatre’s stage along with music, comedy and other theatrical performances. The theatre will also be available to rent for private functions such as weddings, holiday parties and special occasion events.

Originally from England, Richard Smith specializes the in fingerstyle guitar tradition of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. A Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, you will be completely awestruck with his performance! Anyone who appreciates the guitar should not miss this opportunity to see Richard Smith! Doors open at 7:00 and show starts at 7:30. </P>
