Reuse Summit

The Partnership for a Green City is a sustainability collaboration of Jefferson Community & Technical College, Jefferson County Public Schools, Louisville Metro Government and the University of Louisville. Our mission is to inspire and promote a sustainable city through action, leadership, innovation, collaboration and measurable progress.  We work with the Collective Impact model to promote positive, sustainable change within our public organizations.

Partnership for a Green City

People have heard the three R’s for years – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Many of us have figured out how to reduce waste – at work, at school and at home. Over the past 30 years, recycling has increased across the country with people recycling where they frequent. The Partnership and Metro Public Works are focusing on the middle R – REUSE – to familiarize Louisville with reuse opportunities, minimizing landfill disposal of items that are beneficial to others. Taking your clothes to Goodwill, St. Vincent DePaul, or another non-profit is reuse. We can donate home appliances, windows, doors, cabinets, etc. through the Habitat Restore. There are many items at home that can be used for art projects in schools through Good Garbage. Supplies Overseas takes used medical equipment and other medical supplies to parts of the world where it is desperately needed. Organic materials can be benefcially reused to create mulch or soil amendments for work and home or even methane for power generation. 
Come to the Reuse Summit on June 3 at Jefferson Community & Technical College on Broadway to learn about reuse opportunities in Louisville from stuff to organics and hear about biodigesters through a case study of how they work in other cities. Free Parking is available in the JCTC Student Lot off Second Street.  The Health Sciences Hall Auditorium is in the building off the north end of the lot with the blue-tinted windows.
