The Teachers Ready to Educate, Advocate and Transform (TREAT) mixer is a Professional Learning Network dedicated to providing a safe space for teachers to meet, network and collaborate. Through informal professional development, educators have opportunities to learn how to utilize students' culture to impact teaching and learning.

Teachers Ready to Educate, Advocate and Transform (TREAT)

TREAT, the Teacher Opportunity Corps, New York City Men Teach, the Brooklyn College School of Education, and the Urban Community Teachers Project (UCT) present an evening with acclaimed Afro-Latina author Veronica Chambers as she discusses her new book Resist: 35 Profiles of Ordinary People Who Rose Up Against Tyranny and Injustice. Join us as we celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month and learn new ways to empower our children to stand up for what's right. There will be door prizes, and refreshments will be served. An RSVP and ID are required to enter the venue.
 
Veronica Chambers is a prolific author best known for her critically acclaimed memoir, Mama's Girl, which has been course adopted by hundreds of high schools and colleges throughout the country. Born in Panama and raised in Brooklyn, she writes often about her Afro-Latina heritage. She has written and edited 25 books including her newest book Resist, the 2017 collection of essays on Michelle Obama, The Meaning of Michelle: 16 Writers on the Iconic First Lady and How Her Journey Inspires Our Own, Robin Roberts: Everybody's Got Something, Black Women and Success: Having it All?, Celia Cruz, Queen of Salsa, The Go Between, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics, Michael Strahan: Wake Up Happy, and Yes Chef with Marcus Samuelsson. She has been a senior editor at the New York Times Magazine, Newsweek and Glamour and was a JSK Knight fellow at Stanford University. Chambers recently joined the New York Times as the editor of the archival storytelling team.
