Remembering a Legend: Honoring Mayor Carl Stokes with Mayor Justin Bibb
Cleveland's civic heroes, such as Mayor Tom Johnson or former President James Garfield, are remembered with memorials in our city that reflect the weight of their legacy. Yet, as Clevelanders, we have done Mayor Carl Stokes an incredible disservice by failing to memorialize him in a manner that reflects that magnitude of his contributions to our city and to our country. This sentiment is shared by many.
Partners in our community have stacked hands to ensure that Cleveland will forever remember that we all stand on the shoulders of Mayor Carl Stokes. We invite you to join Mayor Bibb, RLR III & Associates, Lake View Cemetery, the Western Reserve Historical Society, and Karamu House to discuss a shared vision for a world class memorial for Mayor Stokes near his final resting place here in Cleveland.
This event will be held on May 19th at the Western Reserve Historical Society. We will gather a group of critical Cleveland leaders to remember Mayor Stokes alongside his family and friends, to share our plans to preserve the Stokes legacy in Cleveland, and to learn more about how you can get involved.
