Refresh DC is a community of web designers, developers, and other new media professionals working together to refresh the creative, technical, and professional aspects of their trades in the Washington, DC, area.Please take a moment to read through ourCode of Conduct. Hiring in tech is booming but broken. Effective hiring isn’t just about sticking to a plan — it's also about being aware that each person is different and that no one method fits all. Refresh DC has invited recent hires as well as managers to share their experiences from both sides of the job search. They’ll cover thoughtful and inclusive practices that you can begin implementing immediately when searching for your next great hire.

<H3>Our Panel</H3>
Mina Shoaib, Senior Designer at Vox Media Mina Shoaib was born in Pakistan and raised in Los Angeles, where she was a student at California Institute of the Arts. Mina uses graphic design as a medium to relay unheard narratives in various communities. She applies design thinking and cultural research to create work that pushes for growth within communities. Currently she’s at Vox Media where she works as a Senior Brand Designer.
Erica Jensen, Recruiter at Viget Erica is a Recruiter at Viget, a local digital agency. She has 4 years of hiring experience, with 3 year focusing on tech and design recruiting. Erica is responsible for and enjoys creating an efficient, positive candidate experience.
Raksa Yin, Product Designer at Deloitte Digital Raksa Yin is a Product Designer at Deloitte Digital, where he is creating digital experiences for the government sector. He also serves on AIGA’s local and national committees empowering the creative community. His former companies include agencies such as Huge Inc, Grafik, and Insomniac Design. He received his Bachelor in Graphic Design from Corcoran School of Art and Design at GWU. He comes from humble beginnings as a son of immigrant refugees. He strives to use creativity to improve the world, one person at a time.
Laura Carollo, Product Design Lead at Upside Business Travel
Laura’s work empowers business travelers through designing easy, user-centered experiences. With more than 15 years working in design, she thrives in collaborative environments and enjoys bringing strategy — and levity — to business challenges. Laura embraces direct communication and documenting and proliferating learnings throughout the research and design process to help bring teams together to solve complex problems.
