Join us on Jan. 28th from 7-8pm to find out about the newly formed BAR-C Co-op and their exciting plans to purchase a mobile meat processing facility to serve the Bay Area!Our panel includes three co-op members /ranchers:Kathy Webster / TomKat RanchSarah Silva / Green Star FarmDuskie Estes / Black Pig Meat Co.Plus Luis Sierra / Asst. Director at the CA. Center for Cooperative Development will be discussing the co-op structure they are organized under &amp; how it was designed as a template that can be replicated for other regions.As we’ve all witnessed the catastrophic effects that the COVID 19 virus has had on our industrial meat complex. It’s no secret that many aspects of these systems are outdated, unhealthy and in an imminent state of decline. Across the country, after prisons and senior care facilities, the #3 source of COVID cases is industrial meat processing. The recent closures of numerous operations comes as no surprise after years of unsustainable industrialized agriculture practices has created negative impacts to the environment and our health. We simply have reached a level of saturation where the Earth and humankind can no longer absorb the levels of toxic waste, inhumane treatment of animals &amp; unsustainable business practices at the scale that these industries are currently functioning at. Their profit driven agendas are out of sync with the health &amp; wellness of the environment and ourselves. The good news is that as the demand for healthy food &amp; awareness for sustainable environmental measures increase, people are working together to build the type of value driven regional infrastructures designed to serve the needs of the supporting populations that they serve. Currently there are only five multi - species meat processing plants in California. Of those five, two do not offer harvesting to local ranches and the other three are between 150 – 250 miles outside the Bay Area.BAR-C will be a lifeline to our local ranchers.
