Red McAdam

Overview

Genre-bending western swing artist blending traditional honky-tonk, folk, and indie rock

Red McAdam is an independent singer-songwriter based out of Flagstaff, Arizona, who creates a self-described playful brand of "outsider country". Born in New Jersey and raised on a steady diet of traditional folk and country greats, McAdam playfully calls himself a "Western fraud" while delivering an inventive, rule-breaking vision of roots music. His sound blends traditional honky-tonk and Western swing with elements of indie rock and R&B, drawing stylistic comparisons to the storytelling eccentricity of Terry Allen and the genre-bending grit of Bob Dylan. Drawing from his real-life experiences as a first responder, recovering alcoholic, and outdoorsman, McAdam's discography—including his album Comic Western Gothic and tracks like "Feelin' Dangerous" and "Big Buck Hunter"—mingles stranger-than-fiction road stories and bizarre characters with deeply vulnerable expressions of a threadbare heart.
