Description

Showcasing our Prototypes

RECOVER, Edmonton’s Urban Wellness Plan, is working to improve wellness for all Edmontonians by turning your ideas for strengthening our communities into reality.

As an Edmontonian, your voice matters—and it’s our job to listen. We started our work with Recover with conversations about the five core neighbourhoods: Boyle Street, Central McDougall, Downtown, McCauley and Queen Mary Park. We met with residents, business owners, community groups, social agencies, and other order of government to build a better understanding of community perspectives on wellness in each neighbourhood.

These conversations, combined with research in each community, led to the development of 13 possible solutions that are being tested to improve urban wellness. Our teams have been hard at work testing these prototypes in each community over the past month.

The work has culminated to this showcase day where we come back together, share our learnings and experiences, and provide more opportunities for the public to interact with and give immediate feedback on our prototypes and solutions.

We will also take this opportunity to celebrate and recognize our efforts and learnings along the way. The RECOVER project has indeed highlighted that Edmonton spirit where people come together, despite a very tight timeline, to implement and improve our communities. Now we celebrate all of it.

ABOUT RECOVER

Recover is a key initiative in 2017-2018 for Edmonton City Council and administration. City Council directed the Administration to develop Recover: Edmonton’s Urban Wellness Plan, to better understand the cumulative impacts of all the different activities and systems that affect wellness in the urban core.

Recover is being developed using a social innovation approach that engages many stakeholders as they understand how their individual efforts impact each other. It also provides opportunities to look for alignment and collective efforts for improving urban wellness. We are starting this work by focusing on 5 core neighbourhoods (Boyle Street, McCauley, Central McDougall, Queen Mary Park and Downtown) and the social, physical and economic conditions and decisions that impact them. The longer-term intent is to develop a repeatable process for urban wellness planning across the city.
