Reckless Rolodex Opening Reception

Gallery 400, a not-for-profit arts space at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), supports contemporary art, architecture, and design through exhibitions, lectures, publications, and programs that prioritize interpretative reflection and critical inquiry. Gallery 400’s mission is to be a contemporary art hub for social interaction, transformative experience, and multi-dimensional learning. Creating a place to connect, Gallery 400 actively positions its exhibitions and public programs as opportunities with which to build community and as avenues for learning in informal social settings. Operating within an urban public university, Gallery 400 offers innovative programming that serves a range of audiences across the fabric of Chicago and UIC’s diverse communities.

Join us in celebration of the opening of Reckless Rolodex, the first examination of Chicago-based performance artist, Lawrence Steger.

Join us for the opening reception of Gallery 400’s upcoming exhibition. Reckless Rolodex highlights the lasting, though largely overlooked, influence of Lawrence Steger, described by the Chicago Tribune as “one of the most important, and most influential, performance artists in Chicago during the late 1980s and 90s.”Reckless Rolodex is the first concentrated examination of Steger’s work to date, providing a landmark opportunity to unearth an artistic predecessor too-easily marginalized by his early death. Central to the exhibition is a stage, created by Edie Fake, where commissioned performances will range from a “mixed reality love poem” by ATOM-r to sky cubacub’s Rebirth Garment fashion show-dance party of youth fashion designers. These performances will premiere alongside writing by Natasha Mijares and artist and co-curator Matthew Goulish.Reckless Rolodex is on view until March 18.ACCESS INFORMATION: This program is free and open to the public.
