About this event

Come enjoy a bookish morning with your fellow book hoes for a brunch-style book club with just 15 other readers total. With a book club of smaller numbers, we'll have a chance to chat more and enjoy one another's company while conversing about the book we read for book club as well as our latest literary journeys.

Reading: YOU'D LOOK BETTER AS A GHOST by Joanna Wallace

When: 10:30am - 12:00pm

Where: Tompkins Square Park

What's included in your ticket: admission to the book club, a special bookmark ONLY available at this book club (ooooh special edition and they're different every time ???); mimosas. As we will be picnicking in the park, please feel free to bring any of your own drinks or food. Mimosas will be included with your ticket.

I will have a large picnic blanket I'll be bringing along with me, but if you have one I'd recommend bringing it along. Should the weather turn on us, we'll have a backup spot we can chat about closer to the date depending on the forecast. I'll also get a park permit for us so we can have our spot secured.

Tompkins Square Park is also a short walk away from Book Club Bar, so if anyone would be interested in taking a walk over to the bookstore for a drink/coffee and browse around (they also have a fun back patio !) we can totally do that !

INFORMATION REMINDER: Please be aware all tickets are final sale - no exchanges or refunds. Tickets are non-exchangeable between book clubs and events and are non-refundable.

This event will be photographed for promotional purposes. We take a group photo at the end of every book club (optional to be in), but photos are also taken during book clubs and events to promote the Book Club for Book Hoes on Instagram and TikTok. Photos are taken by both the organizer and by members who can take their own photos throughout our time together. If you do not wish to be photographed in the group photo, that is totally okay.

IN REGARDS TO BOOK CLUB CONVOS: we are lucky that our book club has grown significantly since its beginning. When speaking/engaging in conversation at book club, please be aware this is a cohesive conversation with equal opportunity for all members. Please be respectful of all opinions, perspectives, and experiences. Our rule of thumb is to make sure you are leaving space for all to provide their input. If you have contributed to the conversation already twice, hold to leave the conversation open for others before commenting further. Please be mindful of this, and a reminder will be sent out again prior to book club.

All communication for any questions, comments, or inquiries are via email at nycbookhoes@gmail.com. Due to high influx of DMs on social media, DMs are not answered on a timely basis and may not be seen. The primary and preferred communication is via email. Responses will come during work hours 9am - 6pm.

Follow @nycbookhoes on Instagram for more information. You can also find an FAQ available in the bio link. Any emails sent with questions that can be answered with the FAQ will be provided the FAQ link. All other questions will of course be answered on a timely basis.

Organized by

The Book Club for Book Hoes was established in July 2022 with our first book club meeting in August 2022 in Central Park. What started as a fun side-hobby has now turned into a full-time job and organization for creator and organizer Zoë Mahler, who runs five book clubs in-person each month and has now expanded to one book club virtually. We host literary and bookish-themed events monthly. To stay connected and get more info you can find the book hoes on Instagram, TikTok, Eventbrite, and Substack. The Book Hoes Podcast is also available on all platforms you like to listen including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Below you can find information about all the book clubs we offer.

Book Hoes Who Brunch Book Club meets on the first Saturday of the month. We meet at a café in Bushwick and discuss any book that comes our way. There is no theme for this book club, other than to accommodate those of us book hoes who are morning people and love a good coffee. We focus mostly on generalized fiction, but have strayed a bit into thrillers, fantasy, and queer literature in the past. This book club is open and inclusive to all book hoes.

Femmes Book Club meets on the first Sunday of the month. We read books with badass femme protagonists and meet in a bar in Union Square (near The Strand). We read books in any genre, but we primarily stick to general fiction and contemporary literature. This book club is open to all femmes and femme-presenting readers in their 20s and 30s.

Murder, They Read Book Club meets the first Monday of the month on the Lower East Side. We read all things spooky - murder mysteries, thrillers, a little bit of horror, and general mysteries. This book club is open and inclusive to all book hoes.

Romance Book Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at a romance bookstore in Park Slope. We read all romances of all kinds. Generally, all parties of the romance books we read are human (I know monster romance is big these days but we haven't gotten that creative yet). This book club is open and inclusive to all book hoes.

Prose & Hoes Book Club meets on the first Thursday of the month at a bookstore on the Upper West Side. Don't let this name fool you, as this book club has evolved from reading prose to reading mostly all fantasy and YA literature interspersed with some other genres here and there. This book club is open and inclusive to all book hoes.

BOOK CLUB FROM BED is our virtual book club. We meet (virtually) on the third Sunday of the month at 8:30pm EST. This book club gets to vote for the books they read and a poll goes out at the end of every month to vote for the upcoming book. There is no specific guidelines for what we read, and we have read lots of different genres and books in the past. We have book hoes joining us from all over the world and our book club is structured virtually as a conversation and follow-up games and chance to chat as a group.

Once you attend book club, you'll receive a follow-up email following your in-person book club (or virtual) that will provide you with a link to our internal Geneva app group chat. Geneva is very similar to Discord, but a bit more user-friendly. This Book Hoes group chat will provide you with an opportunity to connect with your fellow book hoes in between book clubs. There is a main group chat, a community board, and group chats for each book club. Tickets go on sale in the Geneva group chat an hour prior to going on sale to the public.

As for our events, we try to have at least one or two events a month depending on venue availability. In the past, we have hosted book exchanges, happy hours, trivia nights, silent reading nights, read-a-thons, and many more. Our members are primarily women in their 20s and 30s, but we are welcoming to any and all readers who wish to connect and have a good time. Must be 21+ to attend.
