About This Workshop
React developers, learn how to write React for 2020 and beyond with the latest technologies. Move beyond REST with GraphQL and write truly scalable and reliable frontend code with TypeScript.
What You’ll Learn
- How to configure TypeScript + React + Apollo projects
- How to write modern React components, hooks, event handlers, and more in TypeScript
- How to use Apollo hooks for GraphQL on the frontend
- Automatically generate TypeScript typings for GraphQL with GraphQL Code Generator
- Understand full-stack GraphQL and how it replaces REST with an example Node.js backend
How to Prepare
- This course will be hosted in person at Rithm School and streamed live online using Zoom and Slack
- You will need access to a laptop or computer with a working webcam and microphone as well as a strong internet connection
- Pre-work and course set up information will be emailed to all students signed up around 24 hours before (and again an hour before) the course begins
- Each individual course participant must have purchased a ticket
- A laptop, Mac (preferred), Linux, or Windows, with a minimum of 8G (16G preferred) available memory and 200 MB of space available to download applications’
Prerequisites
Students who join this course must have an understanding of React, JavaScript, and Git fundamentals. Here is self-assessment checklist, if you can answer “YES” to every question below, you are a perfect fit for this course!
- I have written React code in a large or production application
- I understand what a REST API is
- I can make an AJAX request using fetch or axios
- I know how to fork, clone, pull, and push to a repository on GitHub
This is an Intermediate/Advanced level course. If you are a beginner or do not meet all of the prerequisites above, we recommend that you start with the Intro to Modern React Workshop.
