This series of stations with exercises, refreshers, and classes will increase NYC CERT volunteer's readiness for future events and hazards to New York City.

Exercise Objectives

1. Refresh and teach methods and protocols all volunteers should know for the day and as prepared New Yorkers.

2. Increase CERT volunteers' situation awareness using the NYC subway infrastructure in times of emergency.

3. Increase volunteer familiarity with their roles and responsibilities when needed in a Search and Rescue effort until help arrives or as first responder line of support.

4. Increase participant's understanding of the tools and resources available to support an individual or mass care with different bandaging methods in order to preserve harm and loss of life

5. Provide an opportunity for participants to share roles and responsibilities within the NYC CERT on-scene protocol supporting first responders.

Exercise Activities

Following two modules of refreshers and a presentation, volunteers will break into groups organized by NYC Emergency Management staff. Within their breakout groups, volunteers will interact with each other, learning best practices through previous experience as an NYC CERT volunteer and professional backgrounds.

Search and Rescue—FDNY Search and Rescue Operations School (FDNY SOC)

Stop The Bleed— FDNY EMS

Crowd Management—NYPD Auxiliary Unit

Subway Simulator— FDNY Special Operations Unit

Disaster Simulation—FDNY, EMS, NYPD, NYCEM

Gear: Full CERT uniform must be worn (polo, yellow safety vest hard hat and response bag ) along with a CERT ID and comfortable shoes.
