About this event

This tour is pay-what-you-want ! If you enjoy the tour, please compensate your guide appropriately! CASH ONLY please! Usually, the guide receives $15 to $20 per adult, but you are free to give more or less than that, depending on how you feel about your tour. As you can imagine, the tour guide has to work hard to earn your appreciation!

Tours have always been pay-what-you-want, but advance registration is now REQUIRED. I need to ensure that there will not be too many people on the tour, and I also need to be able to communicate with you if the tour needs to be cancelled due to the weather or low signups.

This tour requires a minimum number of signups in order to run! If the minimum number is not reached, the tour will be cancelled. You will receive either a tour confirmation email with some last minute details or a cancellation email through Eventbrite no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of the tour. Please check your email the day before the tour and please read any email that you receive about the tour through Eventbrite!

This tour was created to highlight the incredible women who helped make Raleigh the fabulous city that it is today! On this tour, you will learn about several amazing women, including the city's first female mayor, one of the most influential women in the civil rights movement, and the woman who earned the nickname "Lady Edison" because of her numerous inventions!

This tour is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes long, but may be slightly longer or shorter depending on the size and speed of the group. We will start the tour on the sidewalk outside of Whiskey Kitchen at 201 W. Martin St. The starting point is on Martin St., not on McDowell St.

This tour will take place entirely within the downtown Sip n' Stroll district! Please feel free to arrive early and purchase a drink at Whiskey Kitchen before the tour starts.

PLEASE NOTE: You are not permitted to bring your own alcohol to this event! All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from a participating establishment and must be in a specific Sip n' Stroll plastic cup with a date & timestamp, so you also cannot use a koozie with your beverage because the details on the cup need to be visible throughout the tour.

The line at Whiskey Kitchen's bar can be long, so you may also want to consider purchasing a drink at a different establishment before the tour starts. Parkside Restaurant is the next closest participating establishment to the starting point. For a list of all the establishments that participate in the Sip n' Stroll program, please click HERE.

Once the tour starts, we will not be making any specific stops for any other drinks along the route. Along the way, you do have the option of getting a drink at several establishments, including the Raleigh Times Bar, the Big Easy, and the Haymaker. To do this, however, you would need to break off from the tour and then rejoin us after you purchase your beverage.

The tour will end near the US Post Office at 300 Fayetteville St. The end point is 2 blocks away from the starting point. There will not be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.

Please plan your parking accordingly. Free street parking is available on weekends. If you prefer to park in a deck, the closest parking deck is the Wake County parking deck, located at 216 W. Cabarrus St., on the corners of Davie, McDowell and Cabarrus streets. Vehicular entrances are located on Cabarrus and Davie streets. This deck is 1 block away from the starting point of the tour.

I look forward to seeing you on the tour!
