About this event

Raku - Make & Bake Session

Come and enjoy an exciting workshop experimenting in this ancient Japanese technique of glazing and firing pottery called Raku.

Exciting and fast moving, using heat, sawdust, fire and smoky bins, this stunning firing technique is irresistible and very much in vogue.

The pieces you create need to be 25cm/10 inches or less. Everything you need will be provided for you. Please plan for our day to run long. Bring a packed lunch.

  • Please note that due to the nature of this type of firing, we cannot guarantee all pots will survive, occasionally pots may crack or break during firing!

  • As this is a very weather dependent activity, Raku firings do not take place during driving rain or windy days. All will be rescheduled.

Day 1 - Saturday 8th June10 am - 3 pm (only coffee, tea and sweets are provided)

A short Introduction on Raku firing. Mandatory Health & Safety Instruction. An explanation about the preparation of your pot (glazing, Terra Sigillata and burnishing. A sharing/demonstration using test tiles of a few processes so you can plan your pieces. Then on to the freedom of making your masterpieces.

Day 2 - Saturday 29th June 10 am - 3 pm (only coffee, tea and sweets are provided)
