About this event

The Austrian Chamber of Labour (AK EUROPA), the Austrian trade union Vida and the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) cordially invite you to the joint event "Railway liberalisation - lessons learned".

A functioning European railway system is not only essential for passengers and railway workers, it is also key to achieve the objectives of the European Green Deal. It is of the utmost importance to strengthen and expand rail accessibility for passengers across Europe. After two decades of railway liberalisation, it is time to reflect on best practices and failed approaches. What are the key elements of a well-functioning railway system? What do we need to get from Athens to Brussels in a short time with an affordable ticket? What can we learn from countries that have fully liberalised their railway system?

As part of the discussion, we would like to focus on the need to strengthen public passenger rail transport in order to achieve a mobility transformation that serves the interests of the European population and railway workers and contributes to the fight against the climate crisis.
