July 17 - 19 | Eyebeam presents a 3-day, hybrid digital and IRL showcase that is free and open to all, highlighting Eyebeam’s most recent cohort of community organizers and radical artists. Join us in-person and online to see how they make and break space for imagination on-screen. Each event is free and accessible to all. To attend in-person events at the Navy Yard, you must RSVP for each day you intend to visit the space. Hosted at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, this hybrid event series will take place in physical and digital formats (on and offline), combining workshops, artist talks, and presentations. Here, we spotlight our artists' explorations of technology through intersecting forms and themes around access, care, storytelling, the conceptualization of self and dreams, the decolonization of narratives, and the potential for world-building. <h2>Accessibility</h2>The event is structured with inclusivity and is designed to be accessible to all attendees. The venue must be fully accessible, adhering to ADA guidelines, with wheelchair navigation, accessible parking, and ADA-compliant facilities.Provision of American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services throughout the event, ensuring the deaf and hard of hearing community can fully participate and engage with the event's content. As our world grows increasingly technological and automated, the opportunity to put pen to paper becomes less intuitive. Join Elizabeth Perez, one of our 2023 Fractal Fellows, as she guides us into the feelings, ideas, the process and ideation of a new world. We’ll spend time doing a lot of writing and a little bit of talking. What does our new world look and feel like? What are the sounds of this new world? What tech do we include or abolish—how? Whether it’s a long list or a poem, or an outline of what you’ll want to see, we’ll get it all out on paper through some writing exercises for us to design our new, possible futures. We will kick off this three-day event by honoring Disability Pride Month. Subash will be in conversation with Prof. Amar Tumyahang from Yakthung to discuss the ongoing indigenous movement in what we currently know as Eastern Nepal while exploring the Democracy machine fellowship themes of language, storytelling, and decolonization.

The artist will spotlight their work addressing their experiences within the intersection of access, decolonization of the self and identity. Zeina Baltagi will be in discussion with artists and curators Jessica Wimbley and Chris Christion. As a curatorial team, Wimbley/Christion developed a series of curatorial projects contextualizing the visual arts within “biomythography” @biomythart.

We will be screening Subash Thebe Limbu’s VH Award-winning film Ladhamba Tayem; Future Continuous; Nushin Yazdani’s Facial Recognition & the Matrix of Domination and Future Tense: AI from the Margins; a new dance performance by Paula Baeza Pailamilla; and new video works by Astrid Gonzalez. In addition, a reading from Daniela Ortiz’s book ‘Rebellion of the Roots' and a reading on "Eros Study: Glory Hole" from Cy X.

Catalyzing History: Institutional Change-Making and Decolonizing the Museum. The evolution of museums and fine art collections over centuries has necessitated critically examining their roles. In this panel discussion moderated by curator Wade Wallerstein, artists Carla Gannis, Sammie Veeler, and EPOCH artist/creator Peter Wu+ (EYEBEAM Fellow 2022-2023) will discuss their relationships with institutions and how speculative thinking through new technologies might empower creative communities to make them more resilient, in the context of EPOCH's CATALYST exhibition. Through collective efforts, we can create inclusive cultural spaces that prioritize decolonial practices and archival care, allowing for the preservation and amplification of historically marginalized narratives.
